OPD One is a telemedicine startup helping Indian clinics move their practice online onto a tailored electronic health record (EHR) platform. During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, doctors in India were searching for a way to continue providing medical support from a safe distance.
-
From user research to ideation to launch, I designed OPD One’s EHR which included features such as Zoom call integration, appointment scheduling, record organization, and more. My two main learnings from this project were: embrace detachment and proactive communication is key.

NYC Human Resources Administration provides social services to New Yorkers. This is a website case study to redesign their SNAP Benefit page.
-
NYC’s SNAP Benefit site is difficult to navigate and overwhelming with large bodies of text. I applied UI UX design best practices, including consistent elements styles and information hierarchy, to make the website more welcoming and easy to use.

OPD One Telemedicine
Desktop Electronic Health Record
Collaborating closely with the product manager and engineers, I took the lead in crafting a user-centric interface using Figma and Invision. My design process was rooted in the principles of design thinking.
The initial phase involved answering the question: "What is the daily experience of a doctor in India?"
To empathize with our users, I immersed myself in their world, formulating insightful survey questions and reading articles highlighting the dissatisfaction of doctors with telemedicine. Additionally, I tuned into webinars where Indian physicians shared their challenges with telemedicine.
User Research
Our primary user persona was a middle-aged, non-tech-savvy physician aspiring to digitally transition their practice. With this in mind, I prioritized four key features in the MVP: intuitive appointment scheduling, ability to conduct Zoom consultations, simple note taking functionality, and automatic mobile to desktop connection for patient records.
MVP and Wireframes
OPD One’s EHR
Clear information hierarchy, design is similarly used in learning management systems for students, simplified and sophisticated UI
Market Competitor’s EHR
Not inituitive, steep learning curve, overwhelming/outdated UI
Embrace detachment—avoid getting emotionally tied to your work. Instead, view feedback and each iteration as stepping stones towards a better experience for the user. Every round of refinement is also a chance for personal and professional growth.
Proactive communication is key; keep your team in the loop during the design process, rather than after its completion. By sharing progress early on, you open the door to live feedback, highlight that you value your team’s perspectives, reduce throwaway work and time, and contribute to a collaborative and iterative environment.
What I Learned

NYC Human Resources Association SNAP Benefits
SNAP Benefits Mobile Website Case Study
User Empathy and Painpoints
The lack of good design in government sites is a barrier to millions from getting basic needs. According to the USDA Economic Research Service, from 2019-21, approximately 1 in 10 New York households experienced food insecurity. While the government offers food stamp SNAP benefits to these vulnerable populations, the SNAP website is confusing to navigate and overwhelming.
For this case study, I took on the challenge to redesign NYC’s SNAP benefit website.
If I were a designer for NYC’s Human Resources Administration, I would prioritize the mobile site. Not only is this a best practice for responsive layouts, but this is the most accessible and used device by those who qualify for the benefits.
Design Critique and Redesign
I critiqued the current SNAP Benefits site and pulled NYC Human Resource Administration’s design elements from colors to font to maintain the overall site’s design system.
